Volvo Car USA and Charleston Battery soccer club reveal C40 Recharge inspired uniform design

Volvo Car USA, in collaboration with the Charleston Battery soccer club, revealed an all-new C40 Recharge inspired alternative uniform for the club’s 2022 regular season.

Taking inspiration from the unique topography design featured on the dashboard of the Volvo C40 Recharge, the new uniform reinterprets the design for the Charleston area. Where the C40 Recharge offers a topographical depiction of Abisko National Park in Sweden, the new Charleston team jersey provides a visual representation of the land around Patriots Point – home of the Charleston Battery soccer club.

“We are delighted to have the opportunity to feature a unique design detail from our Volvo C40 Recharge model on the Battery club uniform,” said Jim Raggi, Head of the Southern Region for Volvo Car USA. “We hope the collaborative design underscores our pride in being part of the Charleston community and dedication to responsible stewardship of the local area.”

In addition to the bespoke topographical design, the uniform employs high-visibility orange details offering a nod to Volvo Cars’ safety legacy. Similar to the team’s home and away jerseys, revealed earlier this month, the Volvo Spread Word Mark is featured prominently on the front of the new jersey.

The alternate uniform will be used as the Charleston Battery’s third kit, marking a celebration of the collaboration with Volvo Car USA and to be worn by players at select matches during the 2022 regular season. The uniforms will make their debut at Patriots Point on April 6 when the Battery host South Georgia Tormenta FC in the second round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. This uniform completes the trio of new uniforms redesigned for the Battery’s 30th season.

“We’re thrilled to unveil our third kit design in collaboration with Volvo Car USA,” said Battery President of Business Operations, Scott Krenitski. “We couldn’t think of a better way to bring back our alternate jerseys than with a design that highlights Charleston and both organizations’ commitment to the community.”

As part of its commitment to the Charleston area, Volvo Car USA announced earlier this month a front-of-jersey sponsorship agreement with the Charleston Battery for the 2022 season. In addition to collaboration on the club’s new uniforms, Volvo Cars envisions utilizing the sponsorship to connect with the Lowcountry to share its exciting new vehicles and spread its message of safety and sustainability.

In operation since 2018, Volvo Cars’ Charleston-based manufacturing facility employs many local community members. Leaning into Volvo Cars’ global manufacturing strategy, ‘Build where you sell’, the facility manufactures the brand’s S60 sedan and will soon produce Volvo’s next generation electric SUV.

The new alternate jersey, as well as the team’s home and away jerseys are available for purchase on the Battery’s online team store at shop.charlestonbattery.com.
