Seats in Volvo Cars Receive Exclusive Endorsement from American Chiropractic Association

Volvo Car USA has become the first-ever auto manufacturer to receive an endorsement from the American Chiropractic Association (ACA) for its ergonomically-designed seats.

This exclusive endorsement was granted to Volvo Car USA across its entire lineup of vehicles in May 2022 and extends through May 2023. An ACA endorsement is given to products of the highest quality after a series of reviews, analysis, testing and evaluation by a review board of Doctors of Chiropractic, with final approval from ACA’s Board of Governors.

Seats found within Volvo Car USA’s vehicle lineup are based on pioneering collaboration with orthopedic surgeons to offer industry-leading comfort and support. Volvo Car USA is the only automaker to receive this accolade to date.

“Seats designed by Volvo Cars ensure drivers and passengers never have to sacrifice comfort, design or safety when on the road,” said Jim Nichols, Head of Product and Technology Consumer Offer at Volvo Car USA. “We’re thrilled to be recognized by the American Chiropractic Association with an endorsement that reaffirms our industry-leading approach.”

Volvo Cars believes that sitting comfortably helps minimize driver fatigue and maximize the industry-leading safety features found in and around the seats of Volvo cars. Integrated into every seat are Volvo safety innovations including Whiplash Protection System (WHIPS), Side Impact Protection System (SIPS), and Run Off-Road Mitigation that can help reduce risk of injury in the event of a crash. Even Volvo Cars’ distinct head restraints are specially designed to provide increased whiplash protection.

But nothing is more important in an accident than remaining in your seat—that’s why Volvo invented the three-point safety belt in 1959. The automaker released its patent to other automakers in the name of safety and it remains one of the most important safety features in today’s cars, credited with saving more than a million lives.

While safety is always a priority, these seats are also designed for luxury and comfort, making driving in a Volvo feel like a true Scandinavian sanctuary. Drivers and passengers can take advantage of ventilated climate control to cool down on a hot day or even a massage function.

Volvo Cars has also announced that its fully electric vehicles will be completely leather free, instead using high-quality and sustainable alternatives. In addition to the currently available tailored wool blend, future Volvo seats will use Nordico, a new material consisting of textiles from recycled PET bottles, bio-attributed material from sustainable forests in Sweden and Finland, and corks recycled from the wine industry.
