Volvo XC90 named Best Large Premium Utility Vehicle in Canada for 2023

Volvo Car Canada Ltd is pleased to announce that the Volvo XC90 has been named the Best Large Premium Utility Vehicle in Canada for 2023 by the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC). This recognition comes shortly after the XC40 Recharge won the AJAC Green Utility Vehicle of the Year for 2022.

Experts at AJAC evaluate vehicles throughout the year in real-world Canadian conditions to help consumers and potential buyers better understand the number of available options and factors to consider when purchasing a new vehicle.

The 2023 Canadian Car and Utility Vehicle of the Year awards considered vehicles that were newly redesigned, refreshed, and carried over from previous model years, provided a minimum number of ballots were submitted by AJAC journalist for each entry. More than 1700 ballots were submitted by the AJAC experts, who tested entries on various evaluation parameters that include acceleration, braking, vehicle dynamics, maneuverability, even off-road capability, where applicable.

Full of style, understated luxury appointments, and important standard safety features, the XC90 makes for a stately choice in the Large Premium Utility segment. For Model Year 2023, Volvo Car Canada Ltd. announced that the entire lineup of Volvo cars in Canada would consist of mild-hybrid, hybrid or electric vehicles equipped with Google built-in. The flagship XC90 SUV would receive the newly badged B6 mild hybrid powertrain as standard, complementing the extended range plug-in hybrid powertrain announced in the previous year.

The new extended range plug-in hybrid XC90 Recharge is equipped with an 18.8kWh battery and offers all-electric driving in Pure mode while still providing a gasoline-powered engine when you need it.

The XC90 Recharge generates up to 455 hp and 523 lb. ft. of torque, can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in about 5.3 seconds and offers a pure electric range of up to 53 kilometres on a single charge. Google Assistant, Google Maps and Google Play are seamlessly integrated for a uniquely helpful and connected driving experience.

“We’re pleased to see the continued recognition from the experts at AJAC,” said Matt Girgis, managing director, Volvo Car Canada Ltd. “With its long and esteemed history, the XC90 continues to impress, and we are thrilled to add this award to what has become a growing list of accolades for our brand.”
