DISCOVERY CELEBRATES 35 YEARS OF INGENIOUS VERSATILITY WITH ‘35TH EDITION’, A NEW ENGINE AND A SUMMER PROGRAMME OF UK EVENTS

Across a series of events this summer, the Discovery brand celebrates 35 years of ingenious versatility with a suite of improvements to its luxurious full‑size seven‑seat model, including a new celebratory special edition.

Discovery remains an exceptional family SUV that’s been setting the standard for versatility and all‑round breadth of capability since its world premiere at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1989.

The limited ‘35th Edition’ full‑size Discovery celebrates the anniversary with the introduction of a new powerful and efficient D350 mild‑hybrid diesel engine, available in Discovery for the first time. Benefitting from state‑of‑the‑art 48V Mild‑Hybrid Electric Vehicle (MHEV) technology, the new powertrain delivers even greater performance and acceleration.

To help make the most of the great British summertime with friends and family, Discovery will be hosting visitors at a series of exciting events around the UK supported by a Discovery ice cream servery, modified to keep visitors cool and refreshed.

For 35 years Discovery has proudly set the standard for family SUVs and we’re excited to celebrate this landmark. Seven‑seat accommodation, spacious cabin and unrivalled ingenuity make Discovery flexible, capable and practical for family adventures. We love hearing how our clients use Discovery to turn everyday activities into exceptional experiences, this year, we’re going further to help our clients make even more memories to cherish.

Powerful efficiency

The new Discovery D350 available across the full‑size Discovery range, including the popular Discovery Commercial, features a 3.0‑litre Ingenium six‑cylinder diesel with 350PS – a 50PS increase over the outgoing D300, making it the most powerful Discovery to date. Torque is also increased to 700Nm, an uplift of 50Nm, helping the D350 accelerate from 0‑60mph in 5.9 seconds.

With efficient mild‑hybrid technology that harvests and stores energy generated during deceleration and redeploys it to assist the engine when accelerating, it provides combined fuel economy of up to 34.0mpg on the WLTP test cycle and, like all Discovery models, the D350 meets the latest EU6e emissions certification.

Celebratory Edition

The exclusive new ‘35th Edition’ celebrates Discovery’s exceptional 35 years of adventure and ingenuity. It is identified by bespoke ‘XXXV’ badging and ‘Discovery’ treadplates that highlight the incredible journey Discovery has enjoyed since its launch in 1989.

The ‘35th Edition’ is inspired by the Discovery Metropolitan and features Bright Atlas detailing for the grille and ‘Discovery’ lettering. This is complemented by Hakuba Silver lower bumper inserts, 22‑inch Gloss Black wheels with matching spare, black brake calipers, Privacy Glass and a Sliding Panoramic Roof.

Convenience and comfort features inside include Head‑up Display and heated steering wheel, wireless device charging, a front cooler compartment and four‑zone climate control. The cabin is enhanced with Titanium Mesh trim detailing, as well as Ebony upholstery with extended Windsor leather colourways for the trim and seats.

Discovery ‘35th Edition’ adds greater levels of luxury with additional massage functions to the 20‑Way heated and cooled seats, and completing the elevated specification, a 36‑month subscription for the Thatcham S5 accredited Secure Tracker Pro, Cold Climate Pack and Towing pack make the ‘35th Edition’ ready for adventure whatever the conditions.

Available in strictly limited numbers, this celebratory addition joins the S, HSE, HSE Dynamic and Metropolitan in the existing line‑up. Discovery ‘35th Edition’ will soon be appearing in Retailer showrooms and is available in Santorini Black and Carpathian Grey, priced at £79,990 (OTR).

Capability

Discovery remains a highly capable and versatile full‑sized SUV, with all models featuring a 3,500kg towing capacity while Advanced Tow Assist technology takes the stress out of difficult reversing manoeuvres.

Discovery capability is supported by All Terrain Progress Control, which enables drivers to set and maintain a steady speed in challenging conditions. It is available alongside Terrain Response 2, which offers driving modes that optimise a range of vehicle settings to suit different ground conditions, while a maximum wading depth of 900mm provides added confidence.

Coupled with Land Rover’s comprehensive range of accessories, which includes a Pet Pack designed to improve comfort for canine companions, it is easy to see why over the past 35 years Discovery has won its hard‑earned reputation as the ultimate go‑anywhere family SUV.

Adventurous Summer

As part of the 35th anniversary celebrations, a one‑of‑a‑kind Discovery ice cream servery and a pet‑friendly ‘hydration station’ will make guest appearances at a series of events over the summer.

The bespoke ice cream servery has been custom‑made for Discovery, perfectly integrated into the vehicle’s loadspace, accommodating a selection of luxury ice cream flavours and toppings for families to enjoy.

The Hydration Station is inspired by the official Discovery Pet Pack accessory range which includes a foldable pet carrier, portable rinse system, spill‑resistant water bowl, quilted loadspace liner, rubber boot liner and pet‑access ramp. It will provide pet owners with complimentary Discovery dog treats and fresh water to help keep four‑legged companions cool at events this summer.

After making their debuts at Discovery’s Whitsun Week tour of the UK’s south coast earlier this year, the next stop for Discovery’s ice creams and Hydration Station is the launch of ‘Everyman In The Garden’ this summer

From 18th July until 8th September, Discovery reprises its partnership with ‘Everyman in The Garden’ at The Grove Hotel. Coupling outdoor cinema screenings in the spectacular grounds of the exclusive luxury resort in Hertfordshire, Discovery has curated a selection of experiences for guests. Alongside open‑air screenings of iconic family favourites in the walled garden, guests can enjoy al‑fresco dining, tree climbing, hot‑air balloon rides and off‑road driving for adults and young drivers aged 11‑17 – perfect for active families this summer.

Also this summer, Discovery begins an exciting partnership with Watergate Bay Hotel, a luxury resort based in Cornwall, known for its expansive sandy beach, panoramic views of the ocean and family focused guest experience.

Discovery 3 off-road

During July and August, Discovery is offering every child a complimentary session at Watergate Bay Hotel’s ‘Beach School’. From firepit cookery and bushcraft to imagination and storytelling, these forest school‑inspired beach pop‑up sessions build confidence, promote conservation efforts and build survival skills.

Hotel guests staying in the Beach Loft apartments can also book a Discovery Sport plug‑in hybrid electric vehicle to explore the local area on zero emissions, inspired by drive routes with adventure in mind.
