Dallas Volvo Retailers help provide 33,000 meals for hungry children, seniors and families affected by COVID-19 in North Texas

Volvo retailers in Dallas will help give 33,000 meals to hungry children, seniors and families across the state, many affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, through the North Texas Food Bank.

Autobahn Volvo Cars, Crest Volvo Cars, Grubbs Volvo Cars of Grapevine, and Park Place Volvo together have donated $50 for each new car sold earlier this summer to the nonprofit hunger relief organization. Each dollar will buy three meals, every one of which consists of 1.2 pounds of fresh produce and nutritious shelf-stable food.

“Being part of a community is very much a Volvo value,” said Jim Raggi, Vice President Southern Region for Volvo Car USA. “Our four Dallas area retail partners have individually supported the North Texas Food Bank for a long time. They took the initiative this year to combine efforts and strengthen their support during the COVID-19 pandemic to help those in the community who need it most.”

“In these challenging times we are glad to support the community and are humbled by the generosity of our clients and members”, said Donny Lambrecht, Treasurer for Volvo’s Dallas Retailer Marketing Board and General Manager for Park Place Volvo. “Now, more than ever, we must find ways to help each other get through this unprecedented period.” Park Place Volvo also recently worked with After School All Stars to donate 140 backpacks filled with supplies to families in need.”

“Providing healthy food for our neighbors in need is our top priority,” said Trisha Cunningham, President and CEO of the North Texas Food Bank. “That is why we are so grateful for partners like Volvo who are providing critical funds when we need them most. Thanks to their generosity, we will be able to provide 33,000 meals. To Volvo dealers and their loyal customers, we say ‘thank you’!”

“As a longtime supporter of the North Texas Food Bank, we jumped at the opportunity to join with the other local Volvo dealers to raise money for them,” said George Grubs III, President, Grubbs Volvo Cars. “We have also donated approximately 1,000 water bottles to testing facilities as well as masks to local Chambers for other small business to have.”

“Knowing that 1 in 6 people in North Texas are food insecure, we knew that supporting the North Texas Food Bank would be a great opportunity,” said Duncan McPhail, General Manager, Crest Volvo Cars. “We have also worked alongside a couple of other local businesses to fund and serve meals to 570 emergency care workers at the Methodist Hospital of Plano.”

Dallas is an area of strategic growth for Volvo Cars as the company looks to increase brand awareness and market share in Texas. Volvo retailers in the region have accounted for 47 percent of new Volvo car sales in the state so far this year, up 10 percent over the same period in 2019.

The 93-year-old Swedish luxury auto brand known for its safety innovations, including the three-point safety belt, offers a full lineup of award-winning SUVs, sedans and wagons that include powerful and efficient plug-in hybrid variants.

Its XC90 T8 plug-in hybrid was named 2020 Mid-Size Luxury SUV of Texas by the Texas Auto Writers Association.

An innovative feature of Volvo plug-in hybrids gives drivers insights into their electric driving patterns via the Volvo On Call smartphone app. With this and other useful functions, Volvo Cars aims to encourage its plug-in hybrid owners to charge and drive fully electric as much as possible, and more generally boost interest in the benefits of electric cars and sustainable mobility.

Atlanta Volvo retailers help provide 2,500 meals for low-income seniors affected by COVID-19

All five Atlanta-area Volvo retailers – Volvo Cars of Marietta, Volvo Cars Mall of Georgia, Volvo Cars of Athens, North Point Volvo, and Dyer & Dyer Volvo Cars, are supporting the local community by helping Meals on Wheels Atlanta provide 2,500 meals to low-income seniors, considered among the most vulnerable, during the COVID pandemic.

Tim Dalton, General Manager, Volvo Cars Mall of Georgia, and Michael Gerbrick, General Manager, Volvo Cars of Marietta, along with Jeff Gingras, Market Manager, Volvo Car USA, presented a $10,000 check to Gary Shell, Chief Financial Officer, Meals on Wheels Atlanta during a ceremony on Friday at Volvo Cars Mall of Georgia in Buford.

The money represents a portion of new Volvo car sales this summer and will be used to feed those most in need.

“Being part of a community is very much a Volvo value,” said Jim Raggi, Vice President, Southern Region for Volvo Car USA. “Our five Atlanta area retail partners have individually supported the community for a long time. They took the initiative this year to combine efforts and strengthen their support during the COVID-19 pandemic to help those who need it most.”

“During these vulnerable times, it is important for us to play our role in supporting the community,” said Jarred Sandler, Treasurer for Volvo’s Atlanta Retailer Marketing Board and General Manager for Dyer & Dyer Volvo Cars. “It has been our priority to look at ways to ensure our customers feel safe, comfortable and supported. This initiative in June was our way to give that same level of support to those most affected and highlight an organization that provides that relief in our Atlanta community.”

“We are thrilled to partner with Volvo,” said Hillary Baker, Chief Marketing Officer, Meals on Wheels Atlanta. “Their generous donation enables us to provide 2,500 nutritious meals to elderly seniors and their pets.”

The Atlanta region is a strong market for Volvo Cars with Volvo retailers there accounting for 90 percent of new Volvo car sales in Georgia so far this year.
